Deliah Bernard Appointed Indigenous Youth Representative

OTTAWA – The Young Liberals of Canada (YLC) and Indigenous Peoples’ Commission (IPC) of the Liberal Party of Canada are excited to announce the appointment of Deliah Bernard as IPC Vice-Chair of Indigenous Youth & YLC Indigenous Youth Representative. A member of the We’koqma’q (Waycobah) First Nation in Nova Scotia, she has been deeply involved with the Young Liberals both in her home of Cape Breton and at Carleton University in Ottawa. A leader in her community, Deliah will bring her enthusiasm and experience to both executives and looks forward to helping welcome more Indigenous youth into the Liberal movement.

“The Indigenous Peoples Commission’s efforts to engage Indigenous youth within and beyond the Liberal Party are of vital importance. Deliah’s record of leadership makes her the perfect person to help create more opportunities for youth to shape the future of our movement.”

-Suzy Kies and Chad Cowie, Co-Chairs of the Indigenous Peoples Commission

“The Young Liberals of Canada are thrilled to welcome Deliah Bernard to our team. This is a unique moment for the YLC and IPC to work together given our government’s unprecedented commitment to achieving true reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and also reflecting the interests and values of young Canadians. The challenges facing Indigenous youth have too long been ignored – I know that Deliah will be a strong voice for change.”

-Mira Ahmad, President of the Young Liberals of Canada
