OTTAWA – The Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission of the Liberal Party of Canada is pleased to welcome new faces to the APC national executive.

Joining our team as president of the APC (Alberta) is Michelle Robinson. Michelle is a passionate social activist and committed to building stronger, healthier communities.

“I joined the Liberal Party of Canada to be part of our democratic system that has historically excluded Indigenous participation” said Robinson. “I knew of the Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission and the work they’ve done. I submitted two policies, they went to convention, and they passed.”

“During the recent by-election in Macleod, I saw first-hand how hard work can have an incredibly positive impact on electoral results. It reinforced in me confidence in the power of our people and my belief that everyone can make a difference!”

Scott Cavan brings a wealth of experience in professional Communications and inter-government relations and is the new president of the APC (Ontario).

“I have long believed that in order to create the change we desire as Aboriginal people, we need to engage politically” explained Cavan. “With a voice to inform, and an ear to listen, by joining the APC, I saw the opportunity to foster strong partnerships and bring about greater awareness to help advance the interests of Aboriginal peoples in Ontario”.

Ted Martin, the APC National Vice-President for Membership & Organization added:

“Two and half years ago a common vision began the process of re-founding the Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission.  During this time we have maintained this vision at the forefront of all goals and objectives. But we can only be as strong as the sum of our parts.  Each regional APC became the main focus in establishing networks and disseminating information to our members.  The participation by members at the local and regional level helps to grow and strengthen the National APC, and it is this relationship that ensures that Indigenous voices continue to be heard at all levels of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Welcome Michelle and Scott!”
