OTTAWA – Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission statement on Remembrance Day:

In every major conflict throughout the globe—the Boer War, World War I, World War II, the Korean, Gulf, and Afghan Wars, and the many peacekeeping missions around the world—countless Aboriginal people have answered the call to defend our way of life and take up the cause of freedom alongside their Canadian comrades in-arms with extraordinary valour and distinction.

Remembrance Day is a day to reflect on the heroism of the soldiers, veterans, and their families from across our Nations’ who have given of themselves so selflessly to protect the liberties we have gained and continue to strive for; we pause to honour the sacred warriors that did not come home, the one’s who made the ultimate sacrifice, the true heroes of Canada.

We at the Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission rise to salute your determination, courage, and your gallantry.

We will remember.
