For Immediate Release

August 20, 2014

WINNIPEG – The Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission of the Liberal Party of Canada offers our sincere condolences to the families of Faron Hall and Tina Fontaine, both of whom were found in the Red River on Sunday and Monday respectively.

“Faron Hall will be remembered as the ‘homeless hero’ saving two lives from the Red River and consequently awarded the Mayor’s medal of Honour,” said James Harper, the APC National Vice-President (Youth).

Ronda Evans, the APC National Vice-President (Women) added: “As the tragedy befalling Tina Fontaine increases the number of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada, the APC strongly supports the urgent pleas for a national public inquiry.  The families of over 1,200 Indigenous women and girls deserve answers and Canadians deserve to see prevention of future tragedies.”

The Aboriginal Peoples’ Commission will remember Hall and Fontaine as we continue to push for positive change and and renew our call for a national public inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

We offer our deepest sympathies to the friends, family, and communities of Faron Hall and Tina Fontaine.
